Making Sustainability in the Arts a Priority

I was in Scotland presenting at the Association of Arts Administration Educators conference with colleagues from two other countries on Sustainability and the Arts when Donald Trump pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Accords. The conference became a reminder that not only is it incumbent upon all of us to step up and save the planet. We have to lead. Comparative Anthropologist
for an 18-month fellowship starting from June, 1st, 2013, funded by the International Museum Fellowship Programme of the German Federal Cultural Foundation (KSB).
Our ethnographic collection comprises approx. 6.000 items from all over the world: household and ritual objects, textiles, clothes, agricultural equipment, hunting weapons and arms, musical instruments, jewellery, and different means of money. These items have been acquired since 1836 but their age can be much older. Thus, the collection covers a long range of various epochs and periods of the concerned ethnic groups. Almost our entire collection has been digitally recorded in our data base. The fellow shall categorize the available data of the collection according to: age, context/use, ethnic attribution, substance, decoration, etc., as well as conducting additional research for missing or uncertain data. Following this, the fellow shall formulate a concept for a permanent exhibition, bringing together our ethnographic and archaeological collections and create an interdisciplinary, cultural and historical perspective in reference to the following description.
